Lifestyle

New Plymouth is a prosperous energetic city on the west coast of New Zealand's North Island and has a population of around 60,000. As the hub for New Zealand's oil and gas industry, New Plymouth is our equivilent of Aberdeen Scotland, Houston Texas or Perth Australia.

As a small city, New Plymouth has one of the best lifestyles on offer anywhere whilst still providing world class opportunities for career development and experience. The city boasts first-rate public schooling, a large hospital, a vibrant arts community and an overall energetic approach to living. Consequently, New Plymouth is an outstanding family location with extensive recreational opportunities including world class surfing beaches, golf courses and a 9000ft mountain on the doorstep with a ski field, extensive climbing and hiking.

Engineering - Construction Opportunities

Oil and Gas

A significant increase in oil and gas exploration and development over the last few years, particularly within the Taranaki region, has resulted in a large number of commercial opportunities for the support industries. Engineering Taranaki Consortium is currently expanding to meet the demands of the existing projected workload generated from the construction of both onshore and offshore oil and gas production facilities, not to mention ongoing maintenance and support.

"The four major Taranaki projects - Pohokura, Kupe, Tui and Maari - are changing the shape and make-up of New Zealand's energy, and set to almost quadruple the country's production in petroleum liquids." Neil Ritchie, Petroleum News.

Super Yachts

In addition to the expansion of the oil and gas sector, is the development of the luxury yacht industry. New Zealand's position in the yacht building business is well established internationally with a reputation for innovation, quality and performance.

Opportunities exist in Taranaki for qualified engineers, and trades people experienced in the construction of super yachts. These craft are very high specification quality vessels built under order for the luxury yacht market.

In preparation for the workload increase, the construction sector is currently seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified construction personnel and project staff who are considering their long-term career prospects underpinned by a great family lifestyle.
